the next generation

My family is based on a sisterhood. A bond between three woman whose relationships are seldom understood. Although Karla and I benefit from each other's company and support most everyday, (well before my traveling began) the three of us don't always get to sit around and be sisters. This morning Emma rose early and we all gathered to coo over her in her nursery. Emma's nursery is the kind of baby heaven only Karina could put together. A soft yellow vintage rocking chair sits in the corner, a purposefully tattered Winnie the Poo mobile hums twinkle twinkle over the mahogany wood crib and literally everything is swathed in the softest pink fabric known to man. In other words, the perfect place for another Emma photo shoot!

We filmed, bathed, rocked and fed Emma. We imagined what she'll be like, who will be next to marry, become a mother and the hours flew by. The setting moved from our cozy kitchen to the heavenly nursery and our usual wine replaced with breast milk but the bonding has never been better.

represent

I am in full agreement with Susan Menkes, from the New York Times, when she observed that the designers this season were surprisingly focused on keeping it real. Although the spirit of this moment is focused on breaking the recession blues, the clothing is catering to the wallet conscious potential consumer. From bright skirt top combos at Proenza, beautifully draped dresses at Max Azria, or twin set cardigans at Michael Kors-this season it looked as if the models were to strut straight off the runway and into the street no one would bat an eye. Designers showed pretty clothes in great spring colors which I am always happy to see but nothing completely new. More strong shoulders, harem peg legs, over-sized blazers in new billowy fabrics and seasonal Monet colors or bright neons. Excited to see what Europe turns out! But no matter what euro-fabulosity walks down the runway we always have Alexander Wang representing for nyc!

These are few of the pretty pretty looks that topped my list; a little Adam, Vena Cava, Rag & Bone, Proenza and Rebecca Taylor.

Eyes Wide Open...Finally

In just three days my little one has changed and so have I! I have completely become one of those women who talks to everyone she sees about our new addition. And I come fully armed with pictures that I shove in everyone's face!

our first born

At 1:52 Monday, September 21st, our first baby girl was born! We believe, although it is still being debated, that her name will be Emma Valentina. She is a tiny little 6 lb bundle of heart melting cuteness! She is pink pink pink and as of yet shows no signs of her deep Latin roots. She has not even opened her eyes but holds her tiny mittens over her face and coo's every so often. I cannot express the way she makes me feel! It's a calling perhaps but mostly I just want to make her the happiest baby girl in the entire world! She's already the prettiest and I'm not just saying that because she's ours!

Welcome to the world, little one.

Alexander is Totally Clueless

It has been said that Alexander has really tried to really discourage celebu-idiots such as the Lindsey Lohans from wearing his clothes and appearing at his shows. This season he strategically invited Rachel McAdams, who sat with Anna Wintour-brilliant choice! But I believe his real muse this season was Cher Horowitz.

The lycra knee highs, leather shorts, puff sleeves, transparent chiffon layers AND the last look is directly insprired by the outfit Cher wore when she failed her driving test yet discovered, "I love Josh!" It's updated and much more modern but still a subtle nod towards that time when I was just starting to experiment with fashion. After that movie I became so obsessed with Cher's wardrobe, computer operated closet and all, I made sketches of all Cher's outfits so I could have an atelier make for me, since I did't find anything in stores that was comparable! Where was I going to find an atelier in Chester, New Jersey??!!

studiobooth

I cannot say enough about theStudioBooth! I have made quite the ass of myself many a time in Studiobooth since the cunning photographer, Dusting Ross, clicks away at you without your even knowing. But, that's what's brilliant! You walk in, and as you begin to strike your best Kate Moss pose, you've probably already taken about five pictures. The result is magic: funny, natural, beautiful photographers that remind you of being in a boardwalk photobooth-just much more posh!

An Email from Alexander

Alexander Wang's name popped up in my inbox today! My heart fluttered as I quickly opened it. The Coco mini duffle is now in stock for me to purchase for $850! I might cry! Wait wasn't I just crying about handbags the other day? This needs to stop!

Bedford and Commerce St

The first night Simone gets into town we always take a walk. No matter what, we always end up in the West Village on Bedford. It's his favorite street and mine I think now too. I always walk down the tree covered corner where Commerce is, one of my favorite restaurants. Maybe, have a turkish coffee at Moustache. It's all very romantic.

If you can't shop-repair

We are in full Fashion week mode-parties, shows, dinners, visits from friends. I've been trying to keep up with blogging while keeping up with work and the events. I read other blogs this morning and realized I am SO behind.

Anyhow, last week I remembered I had to pick up my Givenchy before the festivities began. I rode my bike all the way up to Barney's on Madison and 61st! I walked in and immediately to the right! In my opinion, the first 15 square feet of real estate, to the right of the opening, is the MOST important-the Givenchy section! I fell in love with an over the shoulder in deep purple with alligator handle; only $1,430. God, I wish I had $1,430! And I stumbled onto a brand new line called Laetitia out of Milano. I must find out how I can possibly find this for cheaper in Italy! These were $1,200 but what I unique piece!

I will not get a new handbag this season but I do have a beautiful Givenchy Nightingale in crushed patent that is good as new! Just as I started to get bummed, I rode past the park and looked out onto Plaza circle. "What I beautiful city," I thought, and I am a very lucky girl! Let's get the party started!

members only?

I HATE the Soho House on the weekends! It turns into a a total cheese fest and you can't even justify the bother since the weather has so quickly turned to such shit! At least in London, at the Shoreditch House, you have plenty of room to lounge on a roof in the freezing cold. This is the only time I will admit LA trumps NY. Their outdoor lounges, always filled with cheesy patrons, at least guarantee gorgeous weather and a beautiful view!

New York State of Mind

When I first arrived back in New York, I must say, I had a bit of the blues. Perhaps, it was the jet lag or the change in climate, but I just wasn't feeling it. One of my new things, is to do something I have never done before to sort of jolt the spirit and creativity. To live in a city that is so dynamic and not appreciate it, is madness!

I decided I would take a bike ride over the Brooklyn Bridge. It wasn't the leisurely ride I was expecting. Actually, it was pretty tough since the bridge has a slight incline. As I looked up at the bridge and out at Manhattan I felt a familiar buzz of excitement and I knew I could get used to this again.
